There are two common surface treatments for steel material boxes: powder coating and galvanizing. Which to choose should not be based on price alone - look at your workshop's humidity, storage environment and how the box is used. The right choice can save a lot of maintenance cost.
Powder coating electrostatically sprays plastic powder onto the workpiece surface and cures it at high temperature, forming a dense coating. It offers color options, resists knocks and wear, and provides good rust prevention. The drawback is that any coating can be scratched; once the steel is exposed, it will rust in damp environments and needs timely touch-up.
Galvanizing is divided into hot-dip galvanizing and electro-galvanizing. Hot-dip galvanizing immerses steel parts in molten zinc, producing a thick zinc layer with strong rust resistance, suiting relatively damp or outdoor settings; after a knock removes zinc, the surrounding zinc layer still provides sacrificial protection. Electro-galvanizing has a thinner zinc layer and is mostly used in cost-sensitive, relatively dry settings.
How to choose: for dry workshops, high appearance requirements and unified color coding, choose powder coating; for damp environments, possible knocks and long-life rust prevention, prefer hot-dip galvanizing; for cost-sensitive, dry settings, consider electro-galvanizing or powder coating.
